Better Hearing Australia was founded in 1932 as the Victorian Lip Readers Club, a self-help support group. In 1946, the organisation became the Victorian Branch of the Australian Association for Better Hearing with the emphasis on lipreading tuition along with social activities.
Under the new name of Better Hearing Australia (Vic) Inc. the organisation has had a strong focus on self-help forums and lipreading classes led by committed, trained volunteers for over 50 years.
Hearing loss management today
Developments in hearing technologies and State Government funding have expanded the self-help model to provide professional services to help people manage their hearing loss more independently and communicate more effectively. We now provide a range of services delivered by qualified staff to communities across Victoria. Find out more about our services for you.
Throughout our history we’ve maintained our independence and advocacy for Victorians dealing with hearing issues.
